Brick Painting in Lubbock

Brick Painting in Lubbock

Brick painting can change a whole room. On this Lubbock-area project, a brick fireplace wall went bright white, letting the dark mantel and ornate mirror stand out and tying the fireplace to the built-in shelves around it.

Is Painting Your Brick a Good Idea?

Painted brick can make a dark room feel much brighter, and a dated fireplace can become the best feature in the house. It is also a big decision, because paint is difficult to take back off brick. It is worth talking through before anyone opens a can.

Before starting, we think about:

  • The condition of the brick and mortar
  • Any moisture or soot on the surface
  • The color of the rest of the room
  • Nearby mantels, tile and built-ins
  • Whether the brick should stay natural

Preparation Is Most of the Job

Brick is porous and textured, so it takes more care than a flat wall. The room gets covered before the paint comes out, because brick paint can travel, and mantels, firebox surrounds and floors all need protecting. Cleaning, masking and working paint into the mortar joints are what make the finish look right.

The Rest of the Room

The same bright white runs across the paneled walls in the rest of this room, giving the furniture and artwork a clean backdrop. See more of what we do on our interior painting page, or contact us to talk about your brick.
